Urinary Tract Infection - Fight them out using natural remedy
Since infection in urinary tract is caused by a type of bacteria named E coli, the antibiotics recommended by doctors usually cannot eradicate the disease from the body. As a result of which, patients tend to get the disease again and again. In general, the medicines prescribed by doctors kill both good and bad bacteria present in the urinary tract. Initially, the patient may be relived of the sufferings but after some days the disease recurs.
Now, one of the best ways to fight out this troublesome disease is to enhance the immunity level in your body. This can be done by taking lots of fluids and vitamin C enriched food. It is proven from many researches that one who takes vegetables and fruits on a regular basis get an immediate boost in the immunity level. The basic idea is to drive out the bad bacteria causing infection out of the urinary tract and as vegetables and fruits contain high amount of fiber it can easily flush out the E coli bacteria.
One can also get rid of urinary tract infection by taking natural homemade antiseptics. One of them is taking apple cider vinegar with warm water. By taking such type of natural antiseptic, one can combat the disease, as apple cider vinegar contain high amount of potassium and enzymes, which can kill the bad bacteria. Some also recommend drinking cranberry juice, which also helps to stop infection.
Apart from all these, one has to take special care in terms of keeping his/her genitals neat and clean, and avoid having sexual intercourse with more than one person. Pregnant women need to take extra precaution as they are more vulnerable to the disease. Apart from them, diabetic patients and elderly people can also get this disease if proper preventative steps are not taken.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a urinary tract infection, will drinking a juice consisting of cranberry and apple juice help?
I was wondering if it has to be specifically 100% Cranberry juice or if it can be a mix of juices like cranberry and blueberry or cranberry and apple to help with the UTI?
No. 100% juice that you buy in the large bottles in the store still contains sugar, especially apple juice! It's incredibly sugary (look at the sugar content on the side of the bottle). And bacteria feeds and thrives on sugar.
There are certain kinds of cranberry juice you can get like Knudson's Just Cranberry that is incredibly bitter and hard to drink, that will cure a "new" infection. If you start taking it the first day you suspect you may have one.
Take 2-3 8oz doses every day for a week and then switch to pills for the next week (see below). It really is terrible to drink, but it will cure your infection. Also, do not drink coffee or eat any kind of sugar or processed food while you are taking this remedy. Drink at least 60 oz of water per day too to flush out the infection. I've done this many times...I get bladder infections like clock work if I am not on cranberry regularly when I am pregnant. I don't like taking a ton of antibiotics.
If you absolutely cannot stand the taste, you can take cranberry pills (which are more effective for preventing than treating an infection). You'll probably need to take them for about 3 weeks to make sure it kills the infection and does not allow new infection to attach to the UT walls. I take 3 twice a day to prevent infection so you may want to up this dose a bit to actually treat an infection.
If after about 4 or 5 days of taking the juice, you do not feel like the symptoms are fading, if your symptoms get worse at ANY TIME or if you start to feel an achy or stabbing pain in your lower back, call your Dr immediately or go to the ER. Kidney infections are NOTHING to toy with. If this does not work for you with in a few days you need to get on antibiotics!
Hope that helps.
does the antibiotic "Amoxcillin" work on a Urinary tract Infection ?
i got a full prescription of Amoxcillin500 and I was wondering if that is the right one for a Urinary Tract Infection.I think it,s just the beginnig of it , but it is not going away with Crannberry Juice and Apple cider Vinegar :o(. Got to work tomorrow and really prefer if I do not have to go to the doctor.REALLY !! appreciate the help :o) !!!
I have a urinary tract infection. Are there any home remedies besides cranberry juice?
I'm sure that's what I have because I've had a UTI before and it's exactly the same symptoms. I would prefer to treat it naturally, antibiotics are a last resort because they crap out my immune system (kill all the good bacteria in addition to the bad) which I really don't want to do during flu season. Here's what I'm currently doing:
*Cranberry Juice (not the sugary cranberry cocktail, I'm running cranberries through the juicer at home and juicing some apples with it so it isn't unbearably tart)
*Drinking lots of water
*Taking garlic oil capsules (it's a natural antibacterial) and Vitamin C to boost my immune system
Is there anything else I should be doing?
Like I said, antibiotics are a last resort, but will go to the doctor if it gets any worse or doesn't resolve in a couple of days, so if "go to the doctor" is your only response, please don't bother answering, that's not helpful. Thanks.
Randi - it may be because of the yogurt cultures. They promote the good gut flora, and 80% of your immune system is in your gut, so it's probably another way to boost your defenses. I take a probiotic every day that includes those cultures (helps my asthma, which is almost nonexistent when I'm good about taking them) so I think I'm covered. Thanks
Dixieangel, the reason taking antibiotics makes you more susceptible to the flu is that they destroys all the good bacteria in your gut that makes your immune system strong. Antibiotics may kill the infection, but they also leave you defenseless to viruses that come along afterwards before your system has had time to build itself back up.
I just started having symptoms today, it's in the very early stages of a lower bladder UTI, so I'm trying to nip it in the bud now. I said already that if it gets any worse (blood in the urine, worse pain, etc.) I will go to the doctor, please answer the actual question.
Nick - people like you who don't understand the human immune system are why I don't go to allopathic doctors if I can help it.
Kay, all the anti-naturopathy trolls in the ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE section can go bye-bye.
As an at-home treatment, increased water-intake, frequent voiding, the avoidance of sugars and sugary foods, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice, taking cranberry supplements, as well as taking vitamin C with the last meal of the day can shorten the time duration of the infection. Sugars and alcohol can feed the bacteria causing the infection, and worsen pain and other symptoms. Vitamin C at night raises the acidity of the urine, which retards the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract.
