Urinary Tract Infection Home Remedies that You Ought to Know

Urinary tract infections are very common and those that have already experience one will probably go through another one at some point or another. They are caused by bacteria that reach the urinary tract and, if left untreated, they can also affect the kidneys and turn into a severe medical condition. UTI usually require seeing a physician. Nevertheless, because treatment involves antibiotics, many people choose to use urinary tract infection home remedies. Antibiotics, if used for a long time, can have unwanted side effects, while home remedies don't raise this problem. Whatever way you choose to go, don't, under any circumstances, ignore a urinary tract infection. It will continue to bother you and it will aggravate. If using home remedies for UIT, go to the doctor if your symptoms worsen or of the infection does not go away in a few days.

The symptoms of urinary tract infections are very bothering and they can't go unnoticed. One of the most popular home remedies for UTI is the cranberry juice. It is best to drink the cranberry juice without mixing it with anything, but if you can't tolerate its taste, also add some apple juice. It is very effective because it dislocates the bacteria that hang on to the walls of your urinary tract. When suffering of such an infection it is advisable to increase the consumption of liquids because urinating more frequently helps in eliminating the bacteria. If urine stays for a prolonged period of time in your bladder bacteria has enough time to replicate, so avoid this by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. In order to increase the activity of your kidneys and to go to the bathroom more often, you can try to drink a decoction made of coriander seeds boiled into water. Consume it after it has cooled down.

Other UTI home remedies include -

1. Baking soda - drink a glass of water with half a teaspoon of baking soda.

2. Apple cider vinegar - it contains some enzymes that fight the bacteria. The action of vinegar is similar with the action of most antibiotics.

3. Echinacea - you can either drink Echinacea tea or take two capsules three times a day.

4. Carrot seeds - make an infusion and consume it daily.

Along with the home remedies for UTI also increase the amount of Vitamin C in your diet because this vitamin destroys the harmful bacteria. In order to obtain relief from the symptoms of the urinary tract infection, keep your abdominal area warm. You can stay in bed and place a bottle of hot water on your belly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I have a urinary tract infection :[ Natural remedies?
I definitely have a urinary tract infection, I got it because I didn't pee for a long time one day, like 8 hours at least, I was on a plane ride & didn't want to bother everyone by getting up. It went away for a bit because I drank lots of juice & water, but last night I had some beer & it definitely came back powerfully. Today I saw some blood (not bright red, just like pink) in my urine on the toilet paper. It is itching like hell inside. I am upset because I'm on vacation and I really do not want to have to go through the trouble of seeing a new doctor, filling out papers, faxing everything, paying copay, etc. What are some home remedies that will actually get rid of the infection that work? I read that apple cider vinegar can get rid of them but I'm not sure if they really get rid of them or just down the symptoms. Help please! ><

    • ANSWER:
Yikes! I've had two of them and I would definitely got to a doctor because you might infect other parts of you body, especially your kidneys. Tons of cranberry juice (also cranberry pills, though juice is more effective) takes the pain away and lessens blood for the meantime.

  2. QUESTION:
Cat with bladder infection. Home remedies?
My male cat has a chronic bladder infection. The vet told me sometimes cats (especially males) have this problem for seemingly no reason and the only cure is 00 surgery, constant meds, or sometimes they just get over it after 3-5 years if you can afford medication for that long. I've dropped almost 0 in vet bills and antibiotics (methionine to decrease crystallization, amoxicillain, + 2-3 others) and can't afford it anymore. I really don't want to put him down but I don't have anymore money for vet bills. I almost didn't get MY bills paid last month. Are there any HOME REMEDIES I can try to cure/help it? Does apple cider vinegar work for cats (I read it does for dogs)? He's on Purina urinary tract food.

    • ANSWER:
I'm sure the Purina food just has methionine added to it. All Purina foods are 2/3 grain and that is not good for any cat. I switched my cats to a raw meat home-prepared diet seven years ago and my cat with urinary problems never had another episode. The raw meat diet causes the urine to be slightly acid and that is the natural state for the cat.

I can give you some ideas and resources for that if you want to email me. I would convert your cat now to a quality canned food - Natural Balance, Wellness, Lick Your Chops, Blue, Avoderm, Felidae etc. while you look into the raw meat diet. I give my three male cats a combination of the raw meat and canned food.

  3. QUESTION:
I really want to take my dog to the vet?
Okay, so last night I posted about my dog possibly have a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). We've basically confirmed it now with her symptoms. We gave her a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of plain organic yogurt as many people suggested and my uncle who is a doctor and knows a ton about dogs, too. She seemed to be doing better last night, and wasn't squatting as much.

Anyways, now today she's peeing a lot. She isn't just squatting and not going, she's actually squatting and successfully peeing a LOT. I thought it was good, you know? Maybe the home remedy worked, until she was laying down and threw up a huge pile of a mix of bile and food! We feed her really good quality food, it's not that. She's never thrown up before.

And she's sleeping a ton and not going around a lot. We really tired her out yesterday, though. (Training classes, running in the park, taking her for drives, going on a walk, etc.)

I'm REALLY worried but my mom says she probably ate something bad outside which caused her to throw up, and that a UTI isn't dangerous and to wait until tomorrow to go to the vet. If we go now it'll cost us 0 just to walk in the door, not tests or treatments or anything!

Please help me convince her or convince me we can wait until tomorrow!

    • ANSWER:
UTI is actually dangerous. it can spread to her kidneys and a kidney infection is NO fun. its extremely painful with fever and all, and the recovery is much longer than with a simple UTI. Although it doesn't usually spread that fast it can. i would be worried an d take her today just to be on the safe side. it can cost a lot more if she has complications that can be prevented with prompt treatment.
